Promoting business models that benefit women and men farmers

Thanks to a project by the CGIAR Research Program on Policies, Institutions and Markets, the CIAT Linking Farmers to Markets and Gender research groups are working to improve the gender responsiveness and transformative potential of its tools for developing inclusive business models, the LINK methodology.

A space to reflect

During these weeks of training we experienced a recurring theme, or rather tension which gender research is caught amidst. When our task is to bring evidence for the need of contextualizing gender relations, highlighting complexity and diversity of power relations and moving beyond the discussion of “the gender gap”, shall and can we ensure scalability and wider impact?

From zombie facts to evidence

Partnerships for progress

The CGIAR Gender and Agriculture Research Network will be partnering with Pennsylvania State University to develop a multi-year Gender Research and Integrated Training series for CGIAR researchers and postdoctoral fellows. This year’s workshop series will take place from June 6-24, 2016.

A study in progress with rice farmers in Colombia

In some Latin American countries, studies have shown the importance of women’s participation in rice production activities, including the decision making processes, even though it is typically seen as a male dominated crop.

On gender and plant breeding

Addressing gender differentiated preferences in development oriented research like plant breeding is vital for ensuring that both poor women and men can be empowered, so that they can benefit tangibly from the adoption and sustained use of CGIAR innovations, resulting in more gender-equitable distribution of food and income.
