In this piece on the EnGendering Data blog, Isabel Lambrecht of IFPRI talks about the need to undertake strong quantitative work to understand local cultural contexts in order to to make the right conclusions about gender relations or women’s empowerment. Without that sufficient understanding of the local context, researchers risk being blind to what the data really shows.
